Just one Tube stop from Canary Wharf, Greenwich Peninsula will be a thriving district outlined by 1.6 miles of waterfront. Here, 15,720 homes will combine with 48 acres of open green spaces, and a commercial district encompassing 3.5 million square feet of shops, hotels, schools and public facilities. The regeneration of the area is already well under way, with the O2, the dramatic form of Ravensbourne college, and the Emirates Air Line cable car. All 15,720 homes have secured outline planning permission, and by summer 2017 over 1550 new homes will be completed.
The energy infrastructure for the development is supplied by Pinnacle Power who in turn are working for Knight Dragon Developments. WilSon energy has been contracted to supply local Heat Interface Units for each dwelling along with a combination of credit billing and PayasyouGo metering for a mix of tenants at the site.
Alongside the more typical local challenges associated with metering every apartment/dwelling in a multi-tenanted development, there we additional requests from the client on 2 specific issues:
1. Bulk Heat Metering for commercial properties within the overall complex.
2. A specific design request to enable the supply of low Primary Flow return temperatures to make the overall heat network system as efficient and cost effective to run as possible.
WilSon Energy worked closely with its exclusive HIU supplier, German company KaMo, to design a unit that would be able to work alongside the low primary flow return temps and boost local temperatures but still retain individual unit efficiency. This involved a re-design of the internal heat exchange mechanisms but through an innovative and pro-active approach all design parameters were delivered. The system is considered to be 5 - 8% more efficient than standard HIUs from other manufacturers.
In addition by utilising both the iOTIVE patented meter data collection network n-DNet® for localised data collection WilSon was able to integrate both domestic metered and the commercial bulk billing needs into a single platform for timely reporting to client and billing to both domestic and commercial tenants.
