WilSon Energy joins Heat Network Scotland

WilSon Energy, has joined more than 50 founding member organisations pledging support for Heat Network Scotland, to provide a strong, unified, independent voice for the Scottish heat network sector.

The newly established Heat Network Scotland champions the development of heat networks across Scotland to enable the transition to a low-carbon, affordable and resilient energy system.

Its members combine a wide range of diverse expertise, bringing together industry, academia, communities, housing providers and government to support its mission to be the ‘go-to’ place for knowledge sharing and meaningful discussions on heat networks.

A spokesperson for Heat Network Scotland said: “Heat Network Scotland wants to create a home that builds and supports a strong and unified heat network community, providing an independent and trusted voice that represents and advocates for the sector to policymakers and the public. With more than 50 founding members, like WilSon Energy, we can bring together a wealth of knowledge to facilitate collaboration, share knowledge and promote best practice.”

Heat network specialists WilSon Energy has been involved in the Wick District Heating Scheme in Caithness, in the Scottish Highlands since 2013, in a project to provide sustainable and cost-effective heating and hot water services to 500 homes. Managing Director Andy Wilkinson explains, “Heat networks are one of the most cost-effective ways to provide affordable, low-carbon heat in densely populated areas such as cities and towns, as well as large rural settlements. They offer a range of additional benefits, including the ability to use residual/waste heat and renewable heat sources, provide electric grid balancing services, enhance security of supply, and support economic growth and local job creation.

“In Scotland, heat networks are expected to play a central role in building decarbonisation, supplying around 7TWh (9%) of national heat demand by 2035, with coverage potentially reaching 67% in some urban areas. We’re proud to bring our expertise to Heat Network Scotland as a founder member to support in creating an independent voice for the sector and accelerate the progress towards a resilient, fair and net-zero energy system.”
